Lovett Way

Lovett Way – Absence of Road Markings and Speed Limit Signage Creating Safety Hazards

Report:

The entire stretch of Lovett Way is currently void of essential road markings and signage, including:

No central white lines to separate traffic flows.

No lane dividers or edge markings.

No single or double yellow line parking restriction markings or associated signage.

No visible speed limit signage.

Hazards caused:

Drivers lack visual guidance, particularly dangerous in poor light, heavy rain, or at night.

Large vehicles (common in the industrial area) may drift across the carriageway due to lack of lane discipline, increasing the risk of collision.

Pedestrians are exposed to danger without clear crossing points or give-way markings.

The absence of speed limit signage may cause drivers to assume higher limits than intended, increasing risks for both vehicles and pedestrians.

Legislation / duties:

Highways Act 1980, Section 41 – duty of the local authority to maintain highways in a safe condition.

Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD) 2016 – requires prescribed road markings and speed limit signs where applicable.

Road Traffic Act 1988, Section 39 – obliges highway authorities to promote road safety and take measures to reduce accidents.

Request: Please inspect Lovett Way urgently and reinstate appropriate road markings (centre lines, lane dividers, and parking restriction markings/signage where applicable), and ensure compliant speed limit signage is installed to provide clarity and improve safety.
