Porz Avenue

Reported via desktop in the Road markings and lining category by Davi Cavicchioli at 10:30, Tue 16 September 2025

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 427688.

Missing road markings and signage

Report: The road surface along Porz Avenue has no visible centre lines, edge markings, or Give Way markings at junctions. In addition, there are no single or double yellow line restrictions anywhere along the road, even at junctions and bends.

This creates several serious safety hazards:

Unrestricted parking along the entire road, including near junctions, obstructs sight lines and narrows the carriageway.

Drivers may drift across lanes due to the absence of centre lines, increasing the risk of head-on collisions, particularly at night or in poor weather.

Junctions are uncontrolled, with no “Give Way” markings or upright signage, creating a collision risk.

No “SLOW” markings, speed limit roundels, or advance warning signs are present to alert drivers.

Relevant legislation and duties:

Highways Act 1980, s.41 – duty to maintain the highway in a safe condition.

Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD) 2016 – requires prescribed markings (centre lines, Give Way lines, yellow line restrictions, etc.) where appropriate.

Road Traffic Act 1988, s.39 – duty on local authorities to take measures to promote road safety.

Request: Please inspect Porz Avenue and reinstate/renew all required road markings and signage, including:

Centre and edge line markings.

“Give Way” markings and signage at junctions.

Single or double yellow lines at junctions and along the road where appropriate.

Advance warning signs, speed roundels, and “Slow” carriageway markings.

These measures are urgently needed to bring Porz Avenue into compliance with statutory requirements and to ensure the safety of all road users.
