Reported via desktop in the Overhanging private property category anonymously at 17:23, Wednesday 1 October 2025

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 428318.

Dear Council.

I am writing on behalf of residents whose homes border the Potton Road hospital site to raise concerns regarding the unmanaged trees along their boundary.

Over time, these trees have grown extensively, and they are now causing several significant issues:

Branches are growing directly against the sides of houses, creating maintenance and safety concerns.

Birds roosting in the trees are consistently fouling residents’ cars, which is damaging the paintwork despite regular cleaning.

Tree roots are lifting and breaking sections of the pavement.

Ivy is spreading from the boundary and is damaging fences, weakening their structure and leading to further repair costs for homeowners.

The overhanging branches are blocking gutters and contributing to damage of residents’ guttering systems.

Given the scale of these problems, we kindly request that the council arrange for a full inspection and maintenance of the trees as soon as possible.

We would greatly appreciate your urgent attention to this matter and confirmation of when works can be scheduled.

Yours sincerely,

Lauren Mullings

Updates

  • State changed to: Investigating

Updated by Central Bedfordshire Council at 17:23, Wednesday 1 October 2025

  • Hi - unfortunately as these are not council owned/maintained trees, and they are affecting private property, we do not have jurisdiction in Highways to action or enforce this - Devon Drive itself is also not yet adopted by CBC. You/the residents would need to contact the hospital directly to request that action is taken - the Town Council or local Councillor may be able to assist with this.

    Many thanks
