Beancroft Road Roundabout

Reported via desktop in the Road markings and lining category anonymously at 10:47, Wed 8 October 2025

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 428567.

The lane markings leading up to and around the roundabout have worn away completely, especially when approaching from the southern roundabout (past the services). This makes it unclear which lane should be used to take the third exit, which leads onto the A421 towards Bedford.

Currently, many drivers use the right-hand lane to go straight ahead onto this exit, cutting across those in the left-hand lane, leading to frequent near-misses and unsafe merging. The layout also includes a hatched merge area just before the exit, which adds to the confusion — it appears to feed the right lane into the exit but lacks any supporting lane arrows or signage to confirm this.

Please could the council:

Reinstate clear lane markings and directional arrows on the approach and roundabout;

Review the lane configuration to improve safety and reduce driver confusion;

Consider adding lane usage signage earlier on the approach.

This is a busy and high-speed area, and the current lack of markings poses a real risk.
