Footpath between Elm Drive and Ampthill Road

Reported via desktop in the Public Rights of way category anonymously at 14:37, Tue 28 October 2025

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8348544.

The footpath is overgrown and untidy and the street light is not visible due to high trees. This has been so for quite a long time.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report. We will do a site visit. Please be aware that the Council is only responsible for surface vegetation growing out of the surface of public rights of way and any vegetation with it's roots in the gardens of properties would be down to the householders/property owners to keep cut back. Your Parish Council may be able to send a mailshot to all properties backing onto the footpath if that is the issue.

  • A site visit has been carried out with a member of your Parish Council. CBC Rights of way will write to property owners to remind them of their responsibilities with regard to encroaching/overhanging vegetation. There is very little surface vegetation. If there was a local footpath volunteer group in Silsoe (which we will discuss setting up with the Parish Council), they could occasionally strim areas like this to keep the village looking tidy - https://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/ info/ 82/ countryside/ 433/ countryside_volunteers
