Church Walk Marston Moretaine MK43 0NF

Reported via desktop in the Obstructing visibility, footway, road, or sign category anonymously at 09:36, Wed 29 October 2025

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 429386.

Trees from Council land overhanging into residential property - 9 The Green, Marston Moretaine, MK43 0NF.

On 4th Dec 24 CBC Contract trimmed a few inches - they needed to cut back a few meters.

The hedgerow of The Bell public house which is narrowing Church Walk.

The hedgerow is significantly narrowing Church Walk, The trees on Council land bordering The Bell are now overhanging my garden by over six feet and beginning to brush against my house! The Green is a designated ‘School Street’ and the road is closed with barriers twice a day, Church Walk is the main pedestrian access to Marston Moretaine VC School, and access to this needs to be maintained.

Due to the narrowed footpath pedestrians are forced to walk closer to my house where there is a loose drain cover which echoes loudly through my house every time somebody steps on it. This occurs hundreds of times a day! For somebody who works from home this is a huge distraction, not to mention incredibly unpleasant.

The streetlight directly opposite my house on Church Walk is hidden by foliage and barely visibly from the main road. The streetlight and visibility from the main road are essential deterrents for antisocial behaviour, which appears to be increasing in this area of the village recently. There are large groups of youths roaming the streets in the evenings and St Mary’s Church appears to be a particular attraction for them.

  • Hello - none of this is Council land, we believe it is all owned by the pub. We will write to the pub to request that the hedging is cut back as it is encroaching the path and growing over the streetlight. We cannot enforce that they cut their trees back from private property, as we do not have jurisdiction to intervene in private matters, this will need to be settled between the two parties. We can request that the trees are lifted over the pathway to prevent obstruction and to remove any danger.

    Many thanks
