Underpass between Marston Moretaine and Lower Shelton

Reported via desktop in the Subway category by Lee-ann Clarke at 11:15, Mon 8 December 2025

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 431541.

There are 24 lights now not working below the underpass, leaving only 16 working. Those lights that are working are all towards the Lower Shelton end of the underpass. This makes the underpass very dark and not pleasant to walk through in the dark, especially in light of the recent flooding there.

Updates

  • Glass and debris in the underpass, not easily visible due to the poor level of lighting

  • Ref the above council report plus Council Ref 433108 and 433109 I have contacted all utilities companies and none take responsibility or confirm ownership of these lights assets. I have also contacted National Highways. Please may I request someone contact Claire Hughes at the National Highways. She has supported documents there to confirm that the assets are under instruction from the local authority CBC Claire Hughes Business Services Coordinator East Customer Services Team Operations (East) | National Highways Woodlands | Manton Lane | Bedford | MK41 7LW 03004707582 I would then welcome your response. This has been ongoing for over three months and we have had numerous residents voice their concern and reluctance to use this underpass. I would appreciate you not closing this report until we have these lights fixed, else it's just a waste of time starting yet another report. Many thanks
