Tactile Paving Bedford Street
Reported via mobile in the Pavement and Cycle path category anonymously at 14:58, Wednesday 1 April 2026
Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 11672.
The Tactile Paving on the Zebra Crossing on Bedford Street Ampthill, photo is of the paving at the crossing Facing Ameera’s Kitchen, has several compliance issues, The paving’s blisters are severely deteriorated and in places completely undetectable using a long cane. . the paving has also been installed in the wrong colour, according to 2021 DfT Guidelines which state that Controlled crossings should have Red tactile paving. A Zebra crossing is legally classed as a Controlled crossing therefore the paving is also installed in the wrong colour as Yellow/Buff colour is for informal/non-controlled Crossing Points. I am unaware how long this issue has been going on for. However it is Urgent as crossing points must have the correct tactile paving and said paving must be in good repair as People with Visual impairments rely on it to find crossings
