Dark Lane

Reported via desktop in the Hazardous or dead tree category anonymously at 08:57, Wednesday 6 May 2026

Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 13156.

The trees along Dark Lane have grown considerably higher and bigger since last reported in September 2023 and April 2024. In May 2025 we were told that the Council was "collating more information and assessing the matter" but then we have never heard anything further and the case was closed. The position has materially changed since that inspection, and we are increasingly concerned that the current condition of the trees now presents a risk. In particular:

The trees have grown significantly and now overhang our garden by several metres, extending much closer to the house than at the time of the previous inspection; We have experienced repeated incidents of branches falling into our garden, particularly during periods of wind; and The extent of the overhang and falling debris means that it is no longer safe for us to use parts of our garden during such conditions. As the trees are located within the public footpath/highway boundary, we understand that they fall under the responsibility of the highway authority and are subject to ongoing inspection and management to ensure they do not pose a risk to neighbouring properties or the public, which we believe they now do. We'd be grateful if the trees could be re-inspected, with a resident of one of the houses affected present, and we'd also be grateful if you could confirm the inspection and maintenance regime for these trees.
