Investigating
102 Hight Street Cranfield Bedford Bedfordshire MK43 0DG
Reported via desktop in the Pavement and Cycle path category by Daniel Dixon at 11:44, Thursday 4 June 2026
Sent to Central Bedfordshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14353.
I am writing to formally report a significant drainage issue originating from 102 High Street, Cranfield (MK43 0DG), which is adversely affecting the public highway and our neighbouring property at 100 High Street.
The main gutter waterspout at 102 High Street has been intentionally redirected so that surface water discharges directly onto the public street and pavement.
The constant runoff is corroding the public pavement and creating a potential slip hazard.
The water is saturating the foundations of the wall at 100 High Street, posing a long-term structural risk.
This appears to be a direct violation of Building Regulations, which require drainage systems to prevent water from flowing onto public highways.
We sent a formal notice to the homeowner on 5th September 2025, requesting they rectify the issue by directing the water to a proper soakaway or drain. We have received no response, and the situation remains unresolved.
We request that the Council investigates this matter and, if necessary, serves an enforcement notice to ensure the owner manages their surface water runoff correctly.
Photographs taken on 5th September 2025 as evidence of the ongoing damage are within the letter attached.
Since this time the damage has really escalated.
